how to play bass

This is a free website containing free online lessons. The lessons I have wrote will range from beginner lessons, (covering all the basics on how to get started to some advance techniques), slap bass, tapping and arpeggios. I have placed a small summary on each page below so you will know what to expect before you view a page. I will write new lessons when I can so please stop by the site every now and then to see if any new lessons have been added. I hope these lessons will help people who are just beginners  to people who have been playing for many years and just need to catch up or haven't got around to learning new techniques. I know what it is like to start a new technique and start playing an instrument you have never played before especially if you aren't taking lessons so this is why I made these online lessons.Theres no point in paying money when you can learn the bass with these lessons I have provided. I hope that because these lessons are for nothing that people don't think that they wont be any good it, would be nice to think that people are actually learning from them.

Bass basics - This lesson covers all the basics. I have tried to cover all the basics I can from basic equipment needed, strings and gauges, using a pick or using fingers, a diagram of the bass fret board, songs to learn for beginners, setting up your action and trust rod plus more. Even if you aren't a beginner I would recommend you still have a quick read to see if there is  anything you have missed.

Exercises - This lessons can be learnt for finger strength and also endurance. These are good for people who having been playing a while but beginners should also try and learn them. I have also place the Exercises in order of difficulty to aid people.

Arpeggios - Arpeggios - the arpeggios are C major triad, C minor triad, C major 7the, C minor 7the, Dominant 7the, and Diminished. The lesson also includes how to use the arpeggios and what chords they work over.

Slapping - This lesson shows you how to get started with slapping. The slapping style I have used is called the double thumb technique used by Victor Wooten amongst others. These lessons also include a brief history of slap and soon will contain songs to learn containing slapping.

Votes - I added this page for fun so bassists can vote amongst themselves and also to find out what most bass players use and how they play bass. So please help out and place your vote.

Forum/Contact - This page is also for bassists so they can talk amongst themselves about questions posted. You can also post questions for other people to answer and also to ask me any questions. If you email me I will try to answer questions A.S.A.P.

New lessons  include: bass scales, left had slap and more detail on slap bass. Also the lessons I currently have will be regularly updated so please re read the lessons.

This search box located at the bottom of the page is custom made for bass guitar and related information so it will come up with good search results about bass and related information. Anything related to bass should come up and anything not related to bass shouldn't come up hopefully.
